Lent day 12 reflection – 28 Feb 2021

by Donn D’souza

My dear brothers and sisters in Christ Jesus,

This Sunday we look at the Transfiguration of Jesus.

The word of God says:

After six days Jesus took with him Peter, James and John the brother of James, and led them up a high mountain by themselves. 2 There he was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and his clothes became as white as the light. 3 Just then there appeared before them Moses and Elijah, talking with Jesus. – Matthew 7:1-3

Just a few things for us to note. The word says after 6 days Jesus took them to the mountain. Which means that Jesus was preparing them for this moment, just as God in his divine will took 6 days till he created man, making everything ready for man and only then he created him.

Jesus does not take us straight to the mountain. He takes some time with us preparing us through his word and through circumstances. He points out at every area in our lives and expects surrender. Just as God the Father took 6 days to perfectly create earth and man, He takes a certain amount of time with us to form us perfectly. Then when he sees that we have surrendered as per his will, he takes us up the mountain to show himself to us in a new light.

2 things happen to us. He transfigures himself for us and this happens at the Eucharist every single time, every single time!

And then we are transfigured into his image and likeness. It is time for us to desire this transfiguration and welcome him into our lives.

Just say the words with me, Lord, I desire transfiguration, to be like you Lord and you alone. I give up all I have, in order for you to be my all. I open all the doors of my body, soul and spirit to you Lord Jesus.

Have a blessed and Jesus-filled day
