Lent day 15 reflection – 03 March 2021

by Donn D’souza

My dear brothers and sisters in Christ Jesus,

Today we look at the Gospel. Jesus says to us…

‘You know that among the gentiles the rulers lord it over them, and great men make their authority felt. Among you this is not to happen. No; anyone who wants to become great among you must be your servant, and anyone who wants to be first among you must be your slave, just as the Son of man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.’ – Matthew 20:25-28

The question before us is, are we willing to give service before we accept it? Are we willing to serve before being served. Do my brother’s needs or my sister’s needs come before mine?

It’s a tough proposition because the world does not work that way. The world looks at its benefit first. It looks at being served first.

But Jesus through his grace works differently. He serves. He obeys. He waits on his Father. If we decide to serve first, then his grace unites with our will, his grace overwhelms us and carries us through life.

We become less selfish, more Godly, less sinful and more holy.

Can we make this decision right away. To serve like Jesus served. To put others first.

Can we practically find someone right away and serve them? Any service, small or big does not matter. What matters is that we are doing something in service of our brother or sister, right now, and in doing that we are obeying Jesus and in doing so we are becoming one with him!

Have a blessed and Jesus-filled day!
