Lent day 16 reflection – 04 March 2021

by Donn D’souza

My dear brothers and sisters in Christ Jesus,

Today we look at the word of God in Jeremiah chapter 17:5 onwards, where God says ,

Cursed is the man who trusts in a man and who makes man his strength and whose heart departs from the Lord. Blessed is the man who puts his trust in the Lord and the Lord shall be his confidence.

Many years ago this scripture tore me apart. I wondered how it was possible not to trust a man or a woman. Was it not against our good nature, not trust someone?

Don’t I trust my husband or wife or father or mother? Am I to be cursed for such a trust? No. Not at all!

The word of God is so clear. It’s says when we put our trust in a man or woman over God, there is an overwhelming tendency to also trust in the strength of man, which in itself is deceptive, and then there is a clear tendency for our hearts to depart from God and that is why God does not allow us to trust man first. He warns us, that that road leads to separation from God.

Let us come to God today deciding to put our trust in God fully. That means that when I am faced with a situation I should ask myself, what would Jesus do, and immediately God will find a way to tell me what to do.

It means that nothing can happen in my life without God ordaining it. It means if God brings me to a situation, he’ll take me through the situation. It means that nothing is impossible for God.

Can we trust him fully today?

Have a blessed and Jesus-filled day.
