Lent day 22 reflection – 10 March 2021

by Donn D’souza

My dear brothers and sisters in Christ Jesus,

Today we look at the Gospel. In the Gospel, Jesus says,

“In truth I tell you, till heaven and earth disappear, not one dot, not one little stroke is to disappear from the Law, until all its purpose is achieved. Therefore, anyone who infringes even on one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same, will be considered the least in the kingdom of heaven. But the person who keeps them and teaches them will be considered great in the kingdom of heaven.”    – Matthew 5:18-19

Now my brothers and sisters, Jesus almost seems unnecessarily strict when He says that he who infringes even one of the least of these commandments and teaches others will be considered the least in the kingdom of God.

The question before us is, who will be the judge? It is Jesus and God the Father. Now why is Jesus being so strict? It is because God’s Word is holy and it is the same Word that created the heavens and the earth, and the same Word that comforts us and the same Word that sustains us.

Thus, the undeniable power of God’s Word cannot be abused by our disobedience, its power is realised and enhanced in our life through our obedience. In fact, our obedience acts as a magnifying glass, allowing God’s Word to work in its true power and authority in our lives.

If you are stuck in any area of your life today and you don’t have a breakthrough, check to see if there is any disobedience, no matter how little.

The moment we decide to obey and begin to obey, His Word works through us and in us and brings tremendous breakthrough and lasting peace.

Sit with Jesus right now. Spend a little time with him and reflect on areas you may have disobeyed Jesus. Write them down. Now, lay your hands on this paper, where you have written down the areas and tell Jesus, you need help in these areas and commit these areas specially to his care. You will find grace flowing into your life, and specifically in these areas.

The power of His Word is waiting to transform us and our situation, are we ready to obey Jesus today?
