Lent day 23 reflection – 11 March 2021

by Donn D’souza

My dear brothers and sisters in Christ Jesus.

Today we look at the Bible, in the book of Romans, where St. Paul says,

“That is why the promise is to faith, so that it comes as a free gift and is secure for all the descendants, not only those that rely on the law but all those who rely on the faith of Abraham, the ancestor of us all. As scripture says, ‘I have made you the father of many nations.’ Abraham is our father in the sight of God, in whom he put his faith and who bring the dead to life and calls into existence what does not yet exist.” – Romans 4:16 -17

My dear brothers and sisters, today’s Word speaks about Abraham and his faith, and so indeed he is called the father of faith. The Word of God speaks about how clear Abraham’s faith in God was. God spoke, Abraham believed. There was no in-between doubt or anguish.

Somehow Abraham through his faith in God was able to bridge the gap between faith and practicality by believing in God fully. So in turn God did something for Abraham. He called into existence something that was not, as if it were. He spoke to what was dead and brought it to life.

For example, He called into existence Isaac, although Isaac was not born yet. And in God’s time Isaac came and that has become the model of faith throughout the Bible and through time as we see it.

Great things have been achieved by men and women of God as they have had faith in God. We believe God and we ask God for something and we put our faith in Him. That’s our part. God then calls into existence whatever we have asked for, even though it is not there, as if it were there and it comes.

It could be a healing of sickness, it could be a job that’s currently not there, it could be peace at home or in a relationship, that is not there. It could be a desire for family and relationships that is not currently there in your life.

You know what God will do? If it is His will, He will call it into reality, He will call it into existence. He will bring what is dead to life by our faith. He’s just waiting for us to invite Him into our lives.

Can we do this? Can we close our eyes for a few moments right now and give Jesus all the areas of our lives? All of them. And then ask Jesus in faith – Lord bring to life all my dead areas. If you desire to remove areas, you remove them Lord. But areas that are dead and that need life, I allow you fully Lord. Bring them back to life.

Let us put all our faith in Jesus!

Have a blessed and Jesus-filled day!
