Lent day 5 reflection – 21 Feb 2021

by Donn D’souza

My dear brothers and sisters in Christ Jesus,

I quote from Matthew 25:34-40 The word of God says,

The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’’

Jesus was very serious about this. We need to look out for the poor. We need to allow the eyes of Jesus to guide us and eventually become our eyes. The eyes of Jesus are on the poor. So should ours be. We need to come out of our comfort zone and attend to the poor. It’s an urgent call to service. It’s an urgent call to be Jesus to the poor.

Many times there are several questions we have regarding the poor. Do they deserve it? Will they utilise it properly? There is something to consider though. When Jesus provides for us, he does not use the same yardstick. He blesses us and provides for us without questioning our motives. We should help others in the same way we have received help from Jesus.

The poor need us. Can you experience the gentle nudge of Jesus to help the poor? Practically speaking let’s look for someone needy or poor today and provide for them.

Jesus is calling. Are we listening?

Have a wonderful Jesus-filled day!
