Lent day 7 reflection – 23 Feb 2021

My dear brothers and sisters in Christ Jesus,

In the book of Matthew 5, Jesus says something very clearly to Matthew, “Come follow me”. Jesus gives no introduction, no route map for the future, no assurances of healing or deliverance. He offers just one thing. Himself.

Many times we would rather have the assurances of Jesus rather than Jesus himself. This is because we are worried about the world and what the world will think of us and what the world will judge us as.

Jesus supersedes all this and just asks us one thing – Come follow me.

We look at a similar scripture, in Matthew 6:33 where Jesus says, Seek first the Kingdom of God and his righteousness ….

Are we ready to Seek him first, to follow him alone?

Practically, we should try this – make a quick mental list, or a list on paper, of what we follow, or who we follow.

Once we make this list, make a quick prayer and surrender this list to Jesus and tell him that today we let go of the things or people in this list , and we have decided to follow him first, we have decided to follow him alone!

Have a blessed Jesus-filled day!
